Template Tips

I typically make 3600x3600 pixel (12 inch) templates. If you want them a smaller dimension you can do several things to resize but sometimes resizing will distort the template parts or will alter the overall feel. You can use the move tool to put the items where you need them.

Many templates you can scrap as a 12 inch square then later crop, cutting across elements and photos. I does create a good look given the right placement of the items and the crop.

A way in Gimp (never tried on other programs) is to rescale the background layer only. Then you can use the move tool to put the elements where the need to be on the new resized background, crop and then scrap.

So experiment. Save in layers often. Remember the handy-dandy undo tool.

Your method works with Photoshop as well. I like making BBs so often use this method to come up with a template in the 6x4 or 5x7 size.
