Note to Teri

Yes, I did this all in Gimp. Specifically, what did you need to know how to do? Scrap with it or make the templates? Post comment here and I'll reply asap. Leaving for work at noon New York time Wednesday so I have all night tonight and tomorrow morning to comment back.

I'd love to know how to make the template. I used the flower template on a layout that I'm working on, but I'd like to do something a little more personalized, like a name. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! I love the GIMP. I go to you tutorial site and love it!!

I am going to work on a tutorial for making these, one with images. In a nutshell, if you can understand this fast post... I created brushes to go along with these and I used guides to help align the brushes. I made a block on one layer. Then I added guides both horizontally and vertically for the center of the brush I'm going to use. I brushed the text or shape in black on a layer, then I went to the black block and used the same brush but as an erasing, the guides keeping the brush centered with the other. Now I return to the text or shape layer and use the rectangular select tool and select the part of the brush that is inside of the block, edit and cut. Now it should be transparent on the inside and black on the outside of the box. Do not merge layers yet if you are doing more items because you don't want to erase or brush over something. You can remove your guides if you're not using them for the next brush (or relocate them with the move tool). Merge visible layers when you are done. DO NOT flatten. Save as a png. I have a few animal ones done but I don't know if I'll have time to upload them yet today. I have an hour to do dishes, feed kids lunch and upload template 112. I leave for work in 2 hours. I'm taking my laptop to work today. Not going to be hot in my car so I can fiddle with stuff during lunch. I work at a GM building. Unsure if I can bring my LT inside - which would be nice, more stuff done since long walk to car. Anyway...
