Template 114 Mini-Kit and QP

This template is being offered a bit differently, a download from everyone.

XCF - Gimp Layered File
PSD - Adobe Layered File
Mini-Kit - Finished Separate Elements
QP - Single Layer Quick Page

A 3600 jpg image is included in each file. The drop shadows are on the quick page and are separate files in the mini-kit. If the shadows are too dark, just shift the layer opacity. I left them dark because of the dark background. If using a lighter background you might want to change the shadow to a purple and set the opacity at 70 or even 60.

Template 113

This very simple template has a bonus paper included. It matches the blocked look of the preview. All files are in one zip. Separate pngs were not included because it's simply blocks and lines.

Puppy Blocked Templates

Only 2 templates are in this zip. I plan on making more dog related ones (suggestions for wording welcomed) and have kitty ones in the works. I have Drama Queen as one of the words for cats, as a cat owner I think it fits.

In the meantime, here's your doggone download, LOL!

Note to Teri

Yes, I did this all in Gimp. Specifically, what did you need to know how to do? Scrap with it or make the templates? Post comment here and I'll reply asap. Leaving for work at noon New York time Wednesday so I have all night tonight and tomorrow morning to comment back.

Blocked Templates 1

These are single layer png template files. Below is an example of how it can be used. Cut out photos or papers with them. Add shadows, weave in ribbons, add alphas and other elements or just keep it simple. Not all of the templates are in the preview, but only one state - Michigan. I still haven't found my states shape tool to make other states.

Update to add another example - a finished layout:

Template 111

Download Template 111 here. Below is a copy of the layout I started. I added word art and doodles within the layers. I'm not satisfied with it yet. I don't have the time to upload it so I at least got this much for you.

Fixing Jagged Edges

I was sent an email asking about the jagged edges she was getting from templates (not just mine) and how to fix them. She mentioned that they look like the ones in my header from when I rotated the cat layout. I get them from time to time too and below is how I fix probably 90% of them:

Say you just cut a paper from a circle template. Your paper is the upper layer and the circle is below it. Select the circle and shrink your selection just by enough pixels to pass the jagged part (usually about 5-20, your preference). Now select invert so you are grabbing the outside edge, then blur two or three times with the standard blur filter. Gaussian blur is okay but leaves a dark shadow, which is fine for some layouts.

A lot about this technique is about what you like and a lot of experimenting.

Hope that helps. If any of you have some tricks for this post it here to the comments. Thanks!

Busy day, have to work and won't be home until midnight. Maybe I'll take my laptop to work and finish more templates during lunch (since I just sit there for a half hour doing nothing anyway). Temp 111 is done except for the layout I'm doing with it.

Template 110

This template has both unfinished and glassy png's, the same ones as I used in the layout below. All needed files are in one zip (pngs, xcf, psd, jpg).

This layout is using 2 papers from my Digitreats Jump Add-on. I am still working on this layout as it's part of a two-pager. I plan on adding word art "running in circles" and second page will have about 3 photos. I plan on creating a template for that and offering it here.

Silly but simple LO.

Template 108

The center part of this template can be used for a photo or adding paper. The two ribbon borders of the center block can be sections of the photo, as shown in the layout below.

Template 107

Here's Template 107. It's a bit busy but as you can see from the layout below, it "calms down". All needed pieces are in the one zip file.

Template Tips

I typically make 3600x3600 pixel (12 inch) templates. If you want them a smaller dimension you can do several things to resize but sometimes resizing will distort the template parts or will alter the overall feel. You can use the move tool to put the items where you need them.

Many templates you can scrap as a 12 inch square then later crop, cutting across elements and photos. I does create a good look given the right placement of the items and the crop.

A way in Gimp (never tried on other programs) is to rescale the background layer only. Then you can use the move tool to put the elements where the need to be on the new resized background, crop and then scrap.

So experiment. Save in layers often. Remember the handy-dandy undo tool.

It feels so good to have a day off and to have my internet back. I'm sure all of you are happy too. I'm glad it wasn't that long of an absence.

Here's a simple layout. All needed files are in one zip. Included is a bonus grungey blue paper.
